Armenian Noahs Ark Coins represent one of the newest collections of silver on the European continent. The national bullion series launched in 2011 with the 1 oz silver coin among the three weights available in that year. The highest mintage of 1 oz silver in this collection came in 2015 when 960,182 coins were sold, while the lowest announced mintage to date remains the 2011 debut issue at just 268,235 coins.
Obverse
The national coat of arms for the Republic of Armenia is featured on the obverse of all Armenian Noahs Ark 1 oz Silver Coins. The seal includes a quartered shield supported by an eagle on one side and a lion on the other. A smaller shield at the center of the primary shield design bears a depiction of Noahs ark as it rests on the crest of Mount Ararat.
Reverse
Noahs Ark is depicted floating on the floodwaters on the obverse side of all Armenian Noahs Ark 1 oz Silver Coins. The ark is found here as the floodwaters finally begin to subside. Noah spends weeks sending out birds in search of land and the first positive sign he receives that the waters are going down is a dove that returns with an olive branch, proof that dry land is out there. In this design, that dove flies through the foreground returning to the ark as the sun rises over Mount Ararat in the distance.
History
Armenia is deeply connected to this story from the Book of Genesis. Historically speaking, Mount Ararat was within the borders of Armenia. It was only after the conclusion of World War I when national borders were redrawn in Europe that it was moved from Armenia to Turkey.
