The introduction of the original Japanese silver trade dollar in 1874 was precipitated by a three-year expedition by Japanese dignitaries. Known as the Iwakura Mission, this collection of Japanese dignitaries traveled the world representing the Emperor of Japan between 1871 and 1873. At this point in history, Japan was looking to expand its economy regionally and globally.

Obverse

On the obverse side of 2023 Proof Japanese Trade Dollar Coins, you will find an effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty is shown here in right-profile relief wearing the George IV State Diadem Crown. The fifth-and-final portrait of Her Majesty, this design was created in 2015 by Jody Clark. Inscriptions on this field read QUEEN ELIZABETH II, ST. HELENA, ONE POUND, and 2023.

Reverse

The reverse face of the 2023 Proof Japanese Trade Dollar Silver Coin comes with a modern vision of the Japanese dragon. This design comes with a Japanese dragon in the foreground in right-profile relief clutching an orb. In the background, a stylized globe is turned to focus on the Japanese main islands. Inscriptions include TRADE DOLLAR and the EIC mint mark.

History

The Japanese trade dollar of the 19th century was issued with a total weight of 27.22 grams and a silver fineness of 90% silver. In total, the coins had 26.96 grams of silver and were produced from 1875 to 1877.

When the subtotal of your purchase, including applicable discounts, is $199 or more, you receive free shipping for your entire order. In order to receive free shipping on purchases of $199 or more, you must live within the 50 US states. For orders less than $199, a $9.95 shipping fee applies. All products are discreetly packaged and shipped with full insurance included.

When will my order ship?

Most Provident orders are shipped within one (1) business day of your payment clearing. Payments made via PayPal clear instantly. Bitcoin payments clear instantly once the transaction is confirmed. Credit Card and bank wire payments process within 1 business day. ACH and paper check payments take 3-5 business days. Once payments are processed, products are released to fulfillment for packaging and shipping.

Can I choose the method of shipping?

All orders of $199 or more that are eligible for free shipping are, by default, shipped via a carrier of our choice (USPS or UPS). Depending on the contents and size of your purchase, you may be able to upgrade to a specific carrier during checkout.

Will I need to sign for my package?

For those orders of $999.99 or less, there is no need to sign for your package. However, you may select the option to require a signature at delivery if you want. This can be chosen and paid for at checkout. All orders of $1000 or more require a signature to complete delivery.

What about International Orders?

Provident is only able to ship to addresses in any of the 50 US states. This includes P.O. boxes and APO addresses.
