Obverse

The obverse side of the 2023 Canadian Maple Leaf Gold Coin comes with the final portrait of Queen Elizabeth II to feature on Canadian coins. Designed in 2003 by Susanna Blunt, this is the fourth-generation effigy of Her Majesty and the first of her reign to lack a crown. The design field includes radial lines in the background and inscriptions of ELIZABETH II, 50 DOLLARS, and 2023.

Reverse

On the reverse field of 2023 Maple Leaf 1 oz Gold Coins, you will find the image of the sugar maple leaf. This design was created for this series in 1979 by Walter Ott. This field comes with a laser-engraved maple leaf that serves as a secure privy mark. Other markings on this field include the radial lines in the background, as well as inscriptions of CANADA, 9999, FINE GOLD, and 1 OZ OR PUR.

History

2023 is the final time Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II will appear on these coins following the Queens death in September 2022. The 2023 coins will eventually transition to a new King Charles III effigy.
