For the obverse design of the 2022 Proof Colorized American National Purple Heart Hall of Honor Silver Coin, the coin shows a Purple Heart award. The field of the heart is colorized purple and shows the left-profile bust of President George Washington. Inscriptions include IN GOD WE TRUST, COMBAT WOUNDED & KILLED IN ACTION, LIBERTY, 1932, and 2022.
Reverse
In the reverse field of 2022-W $1 Proof Colorized National Purple Heart Hall of Honor Coin, you will find the image of a World War I-era nurse tending to a wounded soldier lying on a stretcher. The inscriptions on this side include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, ONE DOLLAR, and the W mint mark of the West Point Mint.
History
George Washington personally awarded the only Badge of Military Merit honors during the Revolutionary War, an honor bestowed upon only three soldiers. Though never abolished, the Badge of Military Merit was not issued again. In 1931, a new merit was proposed and originally issued in February 1932.
