The series launched in 2017 and features images of different sailing vessels that played critical roles in human history. Today, you have the opportunity to get 2021 Rwandan Sedov Nautical Ounce 1 oz Silver Coins online at Provident Metals.
Highlights:
The STS Sedov is the youngest ship to feature in the Rwandan Nautical Ounce Series to date. Launched in 2017, the series has so far featured sailing vessels from bygone eras of human history. Examples of those ships include the Santa Maria from Christopher Columbus voyage to the New World, the HMS Endeavor that famously served the Royal Navy in the 18th century, the Victoria used by Ferdinand Magellan, and the Mayflower, the ship that brought the Pilgrims to the New World.
Obverse
For the obverse design of 2021 Rwandan Sedov Nautical Ounce 1 oz Silver Coins, the mint features a depiction of the STS Sedov sailing along the waters of the sea. The STS Sedov is a steel barque with four masts and was the first sailing vessel in the world to be built with an auxiliary engine for supplemental power. Inscriptions on this face of the coin read NAUTICAL OUNCE, 2021, 1 OZ FINE SILVER 999, and SEDOV.

The inscriptions on this face of the coin include BANKI NKURU YU RWANDA, REPUBLIKA YU RWANDA, AMAFARANGA, MIRONGO ITANU, and 50.
History
The STS Sedov was built as a German sailing vessel in 1921. The ship was based in Bremen with the F.A. Vinnen & Co. shipping company. On its maiden voyage, it set sail from Bremen for Buenos Aires, Argentina. On that maiden trip, the ship was carrying coal from England, timber from Finland, wheat from Australia, and pyrite from Italy. Then known as the Magdalene Vinnen II, the ship was renamed the STS Sedov when its ownership was transferred to the Soviet Union as part of German war reparations following World War II.
