If you purchase a 2020 Proof Missouri Osage Mule 1 oz Silver Coin, the item you receive is packaged individually inside of a protective plastic capsule. The coins in this collection are available as satin proofs with frosted design elements and mirrored background fields. The coins in this series have a face value of 1 Dollar issued by the Native American Mint and the Jamul Sovereign Nation.
This gives the coins a unique status. Though 1 Dollar is inscribed on the coins, they are not legal tender coins in the United States. Only the United States Mint has the authority to produce sovereign coinage for the United States. However, as dependent sovereign nations, indigenous tribes have the power of self-governance and have issued these coins with the backing of the indigenous tribes.
Obverse
A portrait on the obverse of the 2020 Proof Missouri Osage Mule 1 oz Silver Coin depicts a member of the Osage Nation. The Osage people originally lived in the Ohio Valley, but were driven westward during the 17th century. It has been suggested that several wars with the Iroquois and a need for greater hunting grounds pushed the Osage to the west.
Reverse

The mule is the first species that was made as a hybrid by mankind, with some tracing its origins back to modern-day Turkey. It is known that the beast was common in Ancient Egypt by 3000 BCE.
History
The Osage Nation moved west to settle the majority of what is now Missouri, with their influence spreading to Kansas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas. The Osage became a powerful nation in their day and maintained a powerful grip on the region for nearly 200 years until the US federal government forcibly relocated the tribe to modern-day Oklahoma.
