Obverse

The obverse of all 2019 Austrian Philharmonic 1/2 oz Gold Coins is the image of the Great Organ situated within the Musikverein. Also known as the Golden Concert Hall, this is where the Vienna Philharmonic performs in the national capital city of Vienna.

Reverse

On the reverse face of these coins, you will find a variety of musical instruments that are used by members of the orchestra. These instruments include a cello, horn, bassoon, harp, flute, and four violins.

History

The Austrian Mint is one of the oldest operating minting facilities in Europe. These coins were originally released in 1989. All Austrian Philharmonic Gold coins debuted with .999 pure gold and Austrian shilling face values with the exception of only the 1/25 oz coin. In 2002, these coins switched to euros. However, the Austrian Philharmonic Gold Coins hold no legal tender status throughout the EU like they do in Austria.
