Obverse
The Somali coat of arms has featured on the obverse of Somalia Elephant 1 oz Silver Coins in this series since 2004. The national coat of arms includes a single star against a backdrop of horizontal lines on a crowned shield. The shield has a leopard on either side in support of the shield, with two spears and two fern leaves crossed below. The spears and fern leaves are draped in a ribbon. Inscriptions include Somali Republic, 2017, and 100 Shillings.
Reverse
An African bush elephant is showcased on the reverse side of 2017 Somalia Elephant WMF Privy 1 oz Silver Coins. Exclusive to the 2017 date mark in this series, this image shows the massive land mammal standing in an open field with tall grass in the foreground and a tribal hut beneath the shade of a tree in the background. You will also notice the sun in the sky overhead, with a small WMF privy mark just to the lower-right of the sun above the head of the elephant.

The 2017 Somalia Elephant WMF Privy 1 oz Silver Coin features a privy mark on the reverse celebrating the 2017 World Money Fair. The annual gather of mints and numismatists from around the world took place in Berlin, Germany, in 2017.
